Millie Bobby Brown left Twitter on tumblr - sex videoWednesday after she became the target of a hateful meme.
The meme has been surfacing on social media since last year, but this week it went so far as to prompt Millie, an anti-bullying advocate, to put the brakes on her main account.
The homophobic meme, which features people writing nasty messages and attributing them to the Stranger Thingsactress, morphed out of the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown. That appears to have started in November 2017 when @KelsFiona said the 14-year-old snatched her hijab at the airport. It was obviously fake -- when another Twitter user pointed out that she doesn't have a hijab on in her profile picture, @KelsFiona said, "because she ripped it off me."

@KelsFiona was suspended on Twitter and the tweet was deleted. Shortly after, the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown was created as a sort of social media call-to-arms.

Since then, people have been sharing memes, fake Snapchats, and stories about Millie being homophobic.

Calling out an old fave for being (falsely) problematic is a terrible trend in stan communities. It appears the meme may have started ironically among fans, but at some point got way out of control.
It's similar to something that happened years ago when Twitter users added fake captions to Demi Lovato's Snapchats to make her look fatphobic and ableist.

Sadly, some can't get enough of the hateful meme.
But a majority of Twitter users condemned the meme and voiced their support for Millie -- after all, she's literally a child who uses her celebrity to spread messages of positivity. Her anti-bullying side account, which she made to "share love and positivity," is still up on Twitter, but hasn't tweeted anything since December 2017.
@zurbarya called out the adults who bullied the young actress off of social media and promoted violence against the LGBTQ community.

Millie hasn't made any public statements since deactivating her Twitter account.
On Wednesday, she posted a selfie on her Instagram story with the caption "good vibes only."
