It's a Hot Girl Summer™ world,Watch Exotic Forbidden Pleasures Online and we're just living in it.
You've probably seen the phrase "hot girl summer" make an appearance on everything from Twitter memes, to Spotify playlists, to captions on selfies of Instagram baddies. It's a cool, breezy rallying cry of self-love, a confidence-boosting catchphrase. But where did it come from, and what embodies the "hot girl summer"?

You can thank Megan Thee Stallion, the OG Hot Girl, for the now iconic phrase. A Houston-based rapper, Megan's latest album Feverfeatures cover art dubbing herself the "hot girl." On that same album, her song "Cash Shit" includes the line "real hot girl shit," (it also helps that Megan's fans are called "Hotties.")
But according to Know Your Meme, it was really when selfies from fans started popping up with the caption "hot girl summer" did it become as certified a summer staple as frosé. But what exactly does it meanto live out a hot girl summer?
Megan explained it best herself in an interview with The Root, saying, "It’s just basically about women — and men — just being unapologetically them, just having a good-ass time, hyping up your friends, doing you, not giving a damn about what nobody got to say about it."
So there you have it — rock that bodysuit! Drink too many La Croix and vodkas! Don't text your ex back! You neither need to be conventionally attractive, nor a girl, to have a hot girl summer. Just live your best life! Although from the looks of these memes, that's not always as easy as it sounds.
Just remember that there is no "hot boy summer." That would be like having a straight pride parade.

But not everyone was vibin' with the "hot girl summer" theme. It was more of a "sad boy solstice" for some of us.

We're not even two months into the hottest summer in recent years (both sexy-wise, and climate change-wise) and brands are trying to capitalize on the fun. Wendy's couldn't even let us flex our new bikinis for Twitter for five minutes, without hopping in there, huh? Let's look at their stale, sweaty attempts.

But the good news is that Meghan will at least get the credit she deserves — she recently revealed to a fan on Twitter that she's currently in the process of trademarking the phrase.
So this summer, live your life. Live your truth. Because soon enough, it'll be "sad boy autumn."
