Dwayne "The Lascivious Nurse Uniform Diary: Two or Three Times, While I’m WetRock" Johnson has outdone himself financially this year: the actor and former wrestler was named No. 1 on Forbes' list of highest paid actors for the year. In 2018, Johnson placed second on the list; in 2016, he earned the top spot.
Forbes' list analyzes and ranks based off the pay period between June 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019. Throughout that year alone, Johnson actually only appeared in one film, Skyscraper. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw premiered this month, meaning the massive box office haul didn't even contribute to his immense ($84.9 million) earnings over the past year.
So, how did Johnson top the list and beat out Marvel superstars like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans? Somewhat sneakily, Forbes' annual ranking takes into account all of an actor's earnings, rather than solely those reaped from film and television roles. Johnson's royalties over the past year came from Skyscraper, his leading role in HBO's Ballers, his hosting gig on NBC's Titan Games, a quote from Jumanji: Next Level (which will be released in December), and his apparel, footwear, and headphone lines with Under Armour.

With Hobbs & Shaw under his belt and the next chapter of Jumanji coming soon, it's safe to say we can expect Johnson to nab a top ranking on Forbes 2020 list, too.
