Some Americans make news every Halloween for dressing up in racist costumes, dreams of eroticism but some of this year's variety seem amplified by the campaign season.
A college football fan at Saturday's game between the University of Wisconsin and the University of Nebraska showed up wearing a President Barack Obama mask with a noose tied around the president's neck. The fan's friend, sporting a mask of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, was holding the other end of the rope.

"Guest services" employees found the two fans and told them to "remove the offensive components of the costume," according to a statement from the university.
The statement called the costume "repugnant and counter to the values of the university," but defended the "individual's right to free speech."

Many on Twitter weren't happy with the university's response.
@UWMadison @UWBadgers Lynching costume of this country's first AA pres, it's not free speech. It's hate speech. Go read a history book.

The incident in Wisconsin is another in a string of racist incidents that have taken place on campuses around the country this year.
A student at the University of Central Arkansas was expelled from his fraternity earlier this week after he wore blackface to a party.
Two students at a university in Pennsylvania were suspended in late September after they sent out a series of Snapchats in which one of them danced around in blackface.
And earlier in September, a white student at a university in Tennessee was arrested for intimidation after he showed up to a Black Lives Matter protest trying to hand out bananas while wearing a gorilla mask.
