A Pakistan court on Monday banned Valentine's Day celebrations across the country "with immediate effect," the Press Trust of Indiareported.
SEE ALSO: Lovers in Canada get to give fried chicken for Valentine's DayThe order was issued by the Islamabad High Court on hearing a petition submitted by a citizen who claimed that Valentine's Day was not a part of Muslim tradition and its promotions on mainstream and social media should be banned.

The court has nominated the Ministry of Information, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), and the chief commissioner of Islamabad to ensure that the ban is carried out in letter and spirit.
This is not the first time though that Valentine's Day has invited the wrath of Pakistan's conservative society. Last year, President Mamnoon Hussain had also urged the nation not to celebrate Valentine's Day and said that it has no connection with the country's culture and should be avoided.
Incidentally, Valentine's Day stands banned in countries such as Malaysia, Iran, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia too. It is considered "un-Islamic" and thus avoided.
In 2015, Indonesian Muslim clerics had even threatened to issue a fatwa against the joint sale of chocolates and condoms on Valentine's Day. They regard it as a "Western celebration" that promotes sex, alcohol and drug use.
But we're not sure if Pakistan has been successful in implementing the ban yet. Because...
