Throughout Los Angeles,Tina Tyler Archives posters of Meryl Streep smiling while standing alongside predatory producer Harvey Weinstein now hang. The actress's eyes are blocked in the image, and within that block is the statement, "She Knew."
It's not known who's behind the street art, but the message is pretty clear: The actress is being accused of enabling years of sexual harassment and assault from Weinstein throughout the entertainment industry.
SEE ALSO: The dispute between Rose McGowan and Meryl Streep is important, but it's distracting us from the real problemThe posters went up around Los Angeles Tuesday. One was spotted at Highland Avenue near Hollywood Boulevard. The Hollywood Reporteralso found posters near Streep’s house in Pasadena, near the SAG-AFTRA building and near the 20th Century Fox studio lot.
On Monday Streep spoke out after actress Rose McGowan — who has accused Weinstein of sexual assault — addressed Streep's "silence." Streep responded in Huff Post that she didn't know about the abuse: "I didn’t know. I don’t tacitly approve of rape. I didn’t know. I don’t like young women being assaulted. I didn’t know this was happening," she wrote.
Over the years Streep has often been photographed with Weinstein, and she's worked with him and his production company. But since the scandal was exposed in October, Streep has been vocal in her contempt for his behavior.
The posters are in the style of collage artist Barbara Kruger and have a QR code for Bitcoin donations. Based on the linked Bitcoin wallet from one of the posters in Hollywood, no donations have come in yet.
