In addition to being a formidable singer and Yoshihiro Tanbara Archivesa benevolent witch, 'looks like Lorde is also a tough-but-fair reviewer of the world's finest onion rings.
After receiving a tip from a Lorde fan, New Zealand outlet Newshub launched an investigation into Instagram account @onionringsworldwide—an onion ring review page that 1) Lorde followed and 2) curiously reflected Lorde's travel itinerary.
SEE ALSO: Lorde's 'Perfect Places' is luminous pop escapismHere, for instance, is an onion ring reviewed aboard a plane to Tennessee—around the same time Lorde was en route to Manchester for her Bonnaroo set. Other rings were posted from New York, where Lorde lives, and Sydney, which she visited in early May.
All in all, Newshub presents a resoundingly convincing case, which you can—and should—take a detailed look at here.
And while @onionringsworldwide mysteriously disappeared shortly after the outlet contacted Lorde's publicist about it, it still managed to disseminate some extremely valuable information (i.e. that you should notget the onion rings at Burger King—which is true).
As for why Lorde deleted the account, that's anyone's guess. Sure, it's understandable that a celebrity would want to evaluate onion rings undetected ... but then why follow the account yourself? Why let your makeup artist, assistant, and producer like the photos? Why leave that internet breadcrumb trail?
Perhaps, once the media request from Newshub arrived, Lorde realized that once people knew about @onionringsworldwide, the authenticity of her onion ring experience would fundamentally change—that the simple pleasure of eating good snacks wouldn't be quite so simple anymore. Lorde, we get it. Eat your onion circles in peace.
Finally, while we have you here, we respectfully disagree about the onion rings documented at NYC's Bareburger. They are glistening, perfect halos, and easily deserve 6/5.
