Omran became the symbol of the human toll in the Aleppo humanitarian crisis after pictures and video of him being loaded into the emergency vehicle were shared widely in August.
Many people jumped to the conclusion he was dead after reports came out that children were killed in last night's strikes on Aleppo's Qaterji, which is where Omran's family lived.
A quick search of Omran's name in Arabic (عمران دقنيش) shows some of the initial false reports:

At least 49 people died and 79 were injured in the bombings, according to the Syrian Civil Defense.
A video uploaded on YouTube showed a young boy hanging by his legs from a roof after the strikes. Wearing a T-shirt that reads "Don’t Shoot," the boy, who ABC has identified as 16-year-old "Marouf," was caught by his legs on the edge of the roof of a bombed building.
Uploaded to YouTube by AMC, the devastating video's accompanying caption says that the child was the victim of an airstrike from Russian forces, and the building hit was his home.
